Greening the Future in Carolinian Canada
The Coalition’s vision for healthy landscapes is demonstrated by the Big Picture, an important tool for thousands of conservation allies and stakeholders to restore a natural heritage system in harmony with existing land uses. The Coalition uses the Big Picture as a basis for exploring key issues, networking between stakeholders, promoting a researched understanding and catalyzing effective action.

History of Carolinian Canada's Strategic Plan
The Carolinian Canada Coalition is a unique organization in this region, filling the gap between national and local programs. As the zone is increasingly recognized as a priority for conservation, taking the time to build our core capacity is a natural evolution in the history of this organization.
The Coalition has worked under a variety of organizational structures in the past reflecting its history as a collaborative. We started in 1984 as a group of organizations and scientists that came together with a shared goal to identify and protect the unique features of this region. Funds flowed to many partner groups for land securement, biological inventories and stewardship, targeted at Carolinian Canada Signature Sites (critical, unprotected areas).
The Carolinian Canada program committee evolved into a multi-sector Management Committee that oversaw the development of a conservation strategy for the region in 1996 and a Big Picture vision in 2001. In 2005, we embarked on a strategic planning process that led to incorporation, thanks to support from the Ontario Trillium Foundation.
On October 6, 2006, we became incorporated as a non-profit under the Canada Corporations Act with our first formal Board of Directors and first election in fall 2006.
On June 4, 2008, we became a Canadian registered charity. (83559 4722 RR0001)
A Strategic Plan and Non-profit Business Plan were developed at that time through wide consultation with members and partners. The strategic plan will be renewed every 5 years.

Over the last decade, the Coalition has grown progressively. To support an incorporated structure, a solid organizational foundation has been developed to carry out major programs, provide accountability and expand to new program areas as needed.
